The following are additional facts about the life and history of Sir Thomas Wyatt:

• Born at Allington Castle, the son of the famous poet Sir Thomas Wyatt (referred to as the Elder)

• Travelled to the Spanish court with his father who was threatened by the Spanish inquisition

• Hated the Spanish

• Served King Henry VIII as a squire and soldier

• Knighted in 1547

• Following the death of King Henry he took part in the uprising by the Duke of Northumberland, to put the Protestant Lady Jane Grey on the throne of England, but protested his loyalty to Queen Mary

• Outraged at the plans of Queen Mary to marry Philip of Spain

• Joined the Protestant conspiracy to replace Queen Mary with Princess Elizabeth

• He raised 4000 men in Maidstone and marched on London

• The majority of Londoners backed Queen Mary and the rebellion failed

• Imprisoned and tortured in the Tower of London

• He died a traitor's death on April 11th 1554 asserting that Elizabeth was not involved in the rebellion
